Eaglesham North

The council's main growth area for Eaglesham: about 360 homes built in three phases from 2028, with a new green network, a community hub and a village green, on green belt land either side of Glasgow Road.

What’s proposed

TODO: Describe where the site is in words people know (either side of Glasgow Road, north of the village, beside Eaglesham Cemetery…). Check this against the council’s framework drawing.

From the council’s development framework and phasing plan:

  • About 360 homes of mixed tenure, built in three phases:
    • Phase 1, 2028/29 to 2031/32: about 140 homes, plus about 34 hectares of enhanced strategic green network
    • Phase 2, 2032/33 to 2034/35: about 120 homes
    • Phase 3, 2035/36 to 2037/38: about 100 homes
  • A strategic green network of about 34 hectares, with about 5 km of paths and active travel routes (LDP3 ref SP2.18)
  • A community, wellbeing and enterprise hub (LP5.17) and a village green / community space at a “village gateway” (LP5.18)
  • An extension to Eaglesham Cemetery (LP5.16)
  • Community growing space and an orchard (LP5.19), and a neighbourhood play area (LP6.4)
  • The framework drawing says to protect the Weary Tree, a local landmark, and its setting

The site covers 59 hectares on the council’s map. All of it is green belt in the current plan (LDP2). In LDP3, about 31.5 hectares, mainly the green network, would stay green belt, and the rest would be released for housing.

What the plan says

“Future development will be centred on the delivery of the Eaglesham North Growth area.”

TODO

A walk round Eaglesham North

Video to come. A short walk along the edge of the site from public paths, showing where the homes would go.
